The Summer Rye is good. Most certainly a summer beer… lighter and citrusy (not lemony) but with an earthy rye snap to it. I have a hard time deciding which Mayflower is my fav, but the porter is definitely up there.

I remember Johnny La La showing me how to make a “Jack Rose” with Laird’s back at The Lark Tavern (Albany, NY.) With all the drinks you’re making, you must have a well-stocked bar … don’t suppose you’d invite me over sometime? (Only kidding, I remember you refused to let me borrow that killer car of yours.) Good post, as always. This site is a great resource … also a fun read.

Thanks! It was tasty, and really wish I had the nicer vermouth to stand up to the other ingredients. Will be sure to dry the Diamondback as well.

Glad to see that the Historic Core has another fan! I haven’t mixed one up in quite a while…I think I just found my drink for the night : )

You’ve gotta try one with the Carpano — it’ll help tone down the Rittenhouse a bit (though something tells me that Cocchi Vermouth di Torino would work well).

Try out the Diamondback Cocktail with the Lady Friend — 2:1:1 mix of Rye, Apple Brandy, and Green Chartreuse. Not as complex as the HC, and much more powerful, but it puts the Chartreuse to good use.
